Your first visit to our office is an important one. Not only does it give both of us an opportunity to get to know each other, but establishing a good relationship is vital to achieving our common goals.
For some patients, the first visit is due to an emergency or a specific urgent concern. Of course, we will attend to the emergency situation first and make you comfortable. If there is not an emergency concern, the first visit typically involves a comprehensive exam, diagnosis, and cleaning. This takes approximately one and a half hours. This time is necessary to accomplish several goals. After discussing and understanding your concerns as a patient, we will review your medical and dental histories. Necessary x-rays will be made, followed by a thorough evaluation of your oral health. This will include an examination of the "soft tissues", including an oral cancer screening and evaluation of the supporting gums. Each tooth will then be examined for decay or defective restorations. A cleaning will also be done at your first visit. Depending on the condition of your teeth and gums and how recently you've had a cleaning, we may recommend further preventative treatment. If necessary or desired treatment is straightforward, your treatment options may be discussed at this visit. If your case is reconstructive or your condition requires complex planning, a separate consultation or review of findings may be needed. To set up an appointment, please call 949-654-1668. |
